winning twice A humiliating seven-wicket loss to Scotland in the Super Six round of the ongoing qualifying tournament on Saturday at the Harare Sports Club has eliminated West Indies from contention to represent the world in the 2023 Men's ODI.

In 1975 and 1979, West Indies won the inaugural World Cup, while in 1983, they came in second place behind India. The West Indies will not be participating in the 13th ODI World Cup, which will be hosted in India from October 5 to November 19.

West Indies' chances of being in the top two and earning a spot in the ODI World Cup were extremely slim going into the Super Six stage. They didn't carry any points into the Super Six because of their defeats to Zimbabwe and the Netherlands in the group stage, and they needed to win all three of their games to have a remote chance of making the cut.

West Indies won't be one of the two sides to qualify for the ODI World Cup this year thanks to the loss to Scotland. After failing to advance to the Super 12 round of the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup in Australia after winning just one out of three games in the group stage at Hobart, the heartbreaking result represents a continuation of West Indies' downfall in ICC competitions.

In order to keep Scotland's prospects of making it to the main event alive, Matthew Cross and Brandon McMullen each scored fifty runs while contributing to a 125-run match-winning stand for Scotland. Meanwhile, West Indies reached the lowest point in their cricketing history.

In the seventh over, Sole uprooted Kyle Mayers' off-stump, leaving the West Indies at 30/4. Later, captain Shai Hope was caught behind by Safyaan Sharif in the thirteenth over, and Nicholas Pooran holed out to deep mid-wicket by Mark Watt in the twenty-first over.

Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd, who put on a seventh wicket stand and added 77 runs, were ultimately responsible for the turnaround. In the 35th over, the pair assisted the West Indies in reaching the 150-run milestone.

When Sharif struck Watt with a one-handed blinder at the backward point in the 37th over to get Shepherd (36) out, their stand was broken. West Indies were eventually bowled out in the 44th over after Holder (45) was caught behind by Chris Greaves in the very next over.

McMullen, who had the best bowling figures for Scotland with 3-32, also reached his fifty in the 25th over. Cross increased the stakes by hitting three consecutive boundaries off Kevin Sinclair in the 27th over to get to forty before reaching fifty in the 29th over.

Despite the loss of McMullen (69) in the 30th over, Scotland remained consistent. They added 56 runs in the overs 26 through 35 to surpass the mark. When Scotland finally crossed the finish line, Cross (74 not out) with skipper Richie Berrington (13 not out) by his side.
