India vs. West Indies in 2023: Jaydev Unadkat dismisses Virat Kohli cheaply in a practice match.
In Test cricket, former India captain Virat Kohli has been having trouble with the bat and falling short of his high expectations. After more than a thousand days, Kohli achieved his first Test century, an 186 against Australia in Nagpur earlier this year. However, Kohli failed to get 50 runs in either of India's two innings at the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval last month, scoring just 14 and 49 respectively. The two-game Test series against the West Indies begins in Roseau on July 12, and the former India captain has already arrived in the region to get ready.
However, Kohli's tour is off to a bumpy start once more after he was removed for just 2 in a practice match against his squad in Barbados. In order to fall early on Wednesday, Kohli pushed left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat to the slip cordon.Kohli has only amassed 1,239 runs at a 31.76 average over the course of 23 Tests over the past three years, with six half-centuries and one century earlier this year. However, the other Indian batters had a respectable performance in the exhibition game.
The inexperienced Yashasvi Jaiswal and team captain Rohit Sharma both scored unbeaten fifties before being dismissed. Jaiswal, the opener for the Rajasthan Royals, and captain Rohit appeared to be in excellent form as they battled through the opening session without being dismissed.
Shubman Gill, the IPL 2023 Orange Cap champion, entered the game to bat in the second session. He typically openers with Rohit. If India's practice match in Barbados is any indication, it will be interesting to watch their opening batting lineup in Rouseau. Yashasvi Jaiswal currently seems to be the more likely candidate to play his first Test match than Ruturaj Gaikwad.
It will be intriguing to see whether Jaiswal or Gill will take Cheteshwar Pujara's place at No. 3. Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja, and Unadkat all bowled lengthy stints during the match, and Unadkat claimed the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Kohli. Rahane batted twice and appeared to have a lot of batter touch the second time around. Rahane has been named the vice-captain for this series.
